Switch Product Solutions Enabling Higher Performance for the Power Tool Market

Power Tool Image

As a leading innovator of Device and Module Solutions, OMRON continues to develop and support a line-up of switches that best fit the needs of Power Tool manufacturers. Our switches provide the durability and performance needed to ensure that the power tool will operate properly throughout the life of the tool.

In this webinar, OMRON will introduce several of our key switch products that support the market, in particular: Trigger Switch, Sealed Basic Switch and Tactile Switches.

Take a sneak peek below:

Trigger Switch – C3AW and C3BW Series

OMRON’s trigger switches, C3AW and C3BW series, are designed for DC brushless power tools with key performance in dust and shock resistance, durability and space savings. There are 2 types of Trigger switches within the C3AW series; C3AW-1A type without Power Contact (Only signal output) and C3AW-2B type with Power Contact for fail-safe. These switches provide variable speed output. The C3BW Series is an ON/OFF trigger switch with power contact for high capacity switching. We are able to switch high current safely in a sealed structure due to our internal design structure that incorporates a magnet. It is also possible to modify some parts of Trigger SW, like color and/or shape of Trigger cap, operating characteristics, cable length, connector type and so on.  Check out some of the key product advantages of the C3AW and C3BW series below:

Product Advantages for the C3AW Series:

  • Dust-proof – High anti-dust performance (equivalent to IEC IP6X) by mounting sealed boots and ultrasonic
                                  welding connection  between Cover-Cases
  • Shock-resistance – No 100μsec or more of chattering within 3,000m/s2
  • Small Size – Smaller switch body which can fit to the limited space in the grip of Power Tool
  • Durability – more than 300,000 operations as Mechanical life performance for Trigger actuation

Product Advantages for the C3BW Series:

  • Dust-proof – High anti-dust performance (equivalent to IEC IP6X) by mounting sealed boots and ultrasonic welding
                                connection between Cover-Cases
  • Shock-resistance – No 100μsec or more of chattering within 3,000m/s2
  • High Capacity Switching – 50k+ operations for electrical life performance under high capacity condition (20A/84VDC)
using a Magnet in conjunction with power contact for extinction of arc
  • Click Function – 25% of click rate during operation for better user feeling which is preferred in ON/OFF power tool applications
such as Circular Saw, Grinders etc.

Sealed Basic Switch– D2EW

OMRON produces several sealed basic switches and today we will highlight the D2EW series, which has several key features that align well with power tool requirements. This switch can support a wide range of applications where waterproof, dustproof, impact and shock resistance is required due to our IP67 and sliding contact structure. Check out some of the key product advantages of the D2EW below:

Product Advantages

  • Water/dustproof – D2EW series has standard of IP67 so can be used in harsh conditions
  • High Contact Reliability– D2EW switches have sliding contacts that provide better contact reliability and
resistance to heavy shock and vibration.
  • Ultra Micro Load - Minimum applicable load 50 μA which helps equate to battery savings
  • Ultra-small size- The industry's smallest class size of sealed basic switch*(8.3 x 7.0 x 5.3 mm) D2GW equivalent size
  • Design Flexibility - Unique Pin plunger shape supports multi-angle operation without using a lever.
  • Variations – Offered in several variations to fit your application needs: contact form arrangement, terminal arrangement

Tactile Switch – B3Sx

OMRON has a strong tactile switch offering and many of which have several key features that align well with power tool requirements. There are many different types of tactile switches that can be used throughout the tools for function switching and power control. They range in various types from sealed / unsealed, through hole / SMT and small stroke to large stroke. Check out some of the key product advantages of the B3Sx series below:

Product Advantages

  • High contact reliability– Sealed construction conforming to IP67 (IEC 60529) provides high contact reliability in
dusty environments. (* Excluding the terminal section.)
  • Ultra-thin– B3SE is just 2mm high due to OMRON thin production and miniature parts assembly technologies.
  • Crisp Tactile Feeling – Very nice response for users to feel the press, works great through gloves and maintains feeling throughout life
